The team was created in November 2005 and since then students have designed and buildt an unmanned underwater robotic vehicle for the 2007&2008 Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Society, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) (underwater robot) Competition. Although this is a competition and the team intends to be highly successful, the focus of the group is on education and awareness.
After two years with our current ROV, "NEO", we are designing and building a new ROV to address issues encountered with NEO. The new design will be streamlined, have a new communications system based on I2C and TCP/IP communication to allow the ultimate in flexibility and compatibility. In addition, the new design will feature an onboard embedded computer running Linux to add the smarts necessary to compete in AUVSI's Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition.
Develop technology and engineers to advance the understanding of the off-shore and underwater environment.
